End Tiredness – 3 Myths

by John on February 9, 2011

Tiredness has become so common that people take it for granted. In a way, it is as natural as hunger and thirst. Our body needs rest to function properly and keep itself whole.

However, chronic fatigue is not something to be taken lightly. It is a sign that things are not as they should be and it’s a warning sign that you need to pay attention to before your health suffers for it.

Tiredness is something that affects many parts of your life. It can increase stress which has been linked to a variety of illnesses, it can harm your work performance, it increases the risk of car accidents when you’re driving, it can make you more irritable toward your loved ones, etc. Fatigue simply harms your quality of life.

There are a number of myths concerning chronic fatigue and the way you can treat it.

The first myth about tiredness is that it is simply a fact of life and something that you “need to get used to”. This is probably because a lot of people are tired on a regular basis and because we live in a society that often judges people who do not invest themselves entirely in their work as being lazy. So, if you’re not tired, you’re not working hard enough. Simple as that.

This is a myth. You can end tiredness if you take the right steps and make it a priority.

The second myth is that to stop being tired you simply need to sleep for more hours. While sleep is certainly vital to your health and you can’t expect to not feel tired if you don’t get adequate sleep, tiredness is not about sleep alone. You can sleep for long hours and still feel tired and there are people who sleep much less than others do and they hardly feel tired at all.

The third myth revolves around the actions that people take to get rid of their tiredness. Whether it’s drinking too much coffee, energy drinks, or using pills, the notion is that these methods have little averse effects on your health. This is not always true. These methods usually deal with the symptoms of your fatigue and not with the actual cause of it. In addition, they can prove hazardous to your health as energy drinks and pills often contain substances which are not healthy for you long term.
